Music is softly playing in the background, the radio having been turned on sometime during the day and no one had bothered to turn it off, a melodic voice faintly registering in their minds, but not quite, as it almost gets lost in their raucous giggling. Mike had grabbed Will at some point, he can’t quite remember now, a little bored, a little mischievous. He took his hand, a distinctive playful tone in his voice as he told Will, “C’mon, let’s have some fun”, before bringing him in the middle of the basement. Will, reluctant, a little bit shy, had tried to get back on the sofa, having an idea of what Mike wanted to do, but the other boy was having none of that.
He took both of Will’s hand in his, started to dance around a little, slowly at first, his smile getting wider. He used his hold on Will to try and get the other to start dancing with him, succeeding minimally as Will had started to sway the slightest bit, a chuckle making way past his lips, not being able to help himself as he watched Mike’s dance steps. He was beautiful, in Will’s eyes, his bright eyes sparkling, giving life to the freckles on his cheeks, now a rosy colour, a brilliant smile never leaving his face, making him look absolutely ethereal. His curls bouncing in time with his steps, which where becoming wilder and crazier, Mike having gained more speed, more enthusiasm seeing as Will was going along with him.
Before long, they were twirling along in the basement, their dance uncoordinated, just the two of them letting go of all the tension, playing around, having fun, smiling like they had never smiled before, enjoying each other’s presence, laughing at the antics they kept pulling, being kids and not letting anything get in the way of that. And as the sky lets go of the last remains of light, making way to the dark blue of the night, the jolly atmosphere takes on a more cozy and calm ambience, their dancing also slowing down. Now, it’s just them, close in each other’s embrace, gently and unhurriedly moving their feet along the carpet, listening as the songs change and thinking;
happiness can be found in the simplest things.
